Hatching Sands

Meridian's Hatching Sands are, unlike its rocky beaches, actually made of sand. Made of finely-ground mountain rock, the sand is a warm greyish colour and sparkles with fragments of quartz and other minerals. Geothermal heat from the Caverns below warms the sand, comforting nesting mothers and helping to incubate their eggs. The Sands are open-air, but are surrounded by walls of overhanging bluffs for extra protection from the elements. Humanoid spectators can view the Sands from seating along the sides; dragons often watch from the cliffs overhead. The area is spacious enough for up to three clutching mothers at once (two if they're especially moody and/or large).

Candidates for Meridian's clutches are housed in barracks - more of a mountain resort hotel, really - just adjacent to the Sands. Built in a log-cabin style and heated internally with geothermal energy, it can easily house a hundred people - both candidates and other visitors board here during their stays. Before the Hatching, they are given training and duties to prepare them for their new lives as dragonriders. It's usually a bit of a crash course: dragon eggs hatch when they're meant to, whether the candidates are ready to attend the Hatching or still scrambling off their Searchdragon's back!

To submit a candidate, you'll need to fill out a Candidate Form.
